US President Donald Trump claimed he was aware of the rising tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan, asserting that he would address the situation after returning from his Middle East visit. Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump described himself as โgood at solving wars,โ emphasizing his past record of mediating international disputes.
Trump reiterated his familiar claim of having resolved several long-standing global conflicts, including what he described as the dispute between India and Pakistan. He also boasted that the ongoing Gaza ceasefire effort would mark the eighth conflict he had successfully ended.
โThis will be my eighth war that I have solved,โ Trump told reporters. โAnd I hear there is a war now going on between Pakistan and Afghanistan. I said Iโll have to wait till I get back. I am doing another one. Because I am good at solving wars.โ
Trump will end Pakistan-Afghanistan tensions
The president highlighted his alleged diplomatic achievements, referencing conflicts that he claimed to have ended swiftly. โThink about India, Pakistan. Think about some of the wars that were going on for years,โ he said. โWe had one going for 31, one going for 32, one going for 37 years, with millions being killed in every country, and I got every one of those done, for the most part, within a day.โ
Trump also spoke about the Nobel Peace Prize, saying he did not seek recognition for personal gain but to โsave lives.โ He remarked, โItโs an honour to do it. I saved millions of lives. But I did not do this for the Nobel. I did this for saving lives.โ
He further claimed that he used economic tools like tariffs to pressure countries into peace. โI settled a few of the wars just based on tariffs,โ Trump said. โBetween India and Pakistan, I warned that if they wanted to fight, I would impose massive tariffsโ100%, 150%, even 200%. I had that thing settled in 24 hours.โ
Trump is scheduled to arrive in Israel today to address the Knesset before traveling to Egyptโs Sharm El Sheikh for a world leadersโ summit aimed at ending the Gaza war. The summit will also be attended by Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas.
Meanwhile, Trumpโs envoy Steve Witkoff and his son-in-law Jared Kushner addressed a rally in Tel Aviv on Saturday, urging the release of hostages and calling for an end to the conflict. The United States, along with Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey, has helped broker what officials describe as the first phase of a ceasefire and prisoner exchange deal between Israel and Hamas.
