Amid escalating tensions along the Pakistan–Afghanistan border, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar have urged both nations to show restraint and resolve their disputes through dialogue. The appeal follows deadly cross-border clashes that have worsened relations between Islamabad and Kabul in recent days.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi emphasized that regional peace depends on stability between the two neighbors. He said both sides must act wisely to avoid further escalation.
“Our position is clear, both nations should exercise restraint. Stability between Pakistan and Afghanistan contributes to peace across the entire region,” Araghchi stated during a televised interview.
Qatar Expresses Deep Concern Over Growing Hostilities
Qatar also voiced serious concern over the deteriorating situation. Its Ministry of Foreign Affairs warned that continued hostilities could undermine security across South and Central Asia.
In an official statement, Doha urged both sides to “prioritize dialogue and diplomacy.” The ministry called on Islamabad and Kabul to reduce tensions, avoid escalation, and focus on peaceful coexistence.
Qatar’s remarks align with its ongoing diplomatic efforts to promote regional stability and conflict resolution in neighboring countries.
Saudi Arabia Calls for Wisdom and Peaceful Resolution
Saudi Arabia echoed similar concerns, emphasizing restraint and wisdom. The Saudi Foreign Ministry stated that dialogue remains the only path to long-term peace between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
“The Kingdom calls for restraint, avoiding escalation, and embracing dialogue and wisdom,” the statement said.
Riyadh reaffirmed its commitment to supporting all regional and international efforts aimed at promoting peace. It further highlighted its solidarity with both “brotherly nations,” expressing hope for stability and prosperity across the region.
Tensions Rise After Deadly Cross-Border Clashes
The calls for restraint come amid heavy military activity along the Pakistan–Afghanistan border. On Sunday, Pakistan launched a major retaliatory operation after Afghan forces reportedly opened unprovoked fire at several border locations.
Security officials confirmed that the Pakistan Army destroyed multiple Afghan posts and seized 19 key positions during the operation. They reported significant losses among Afghan troops and militants.
According to officials, Afghan forces initiated attacks across several points, including Angoor Adda, Bajaur, Kurram, Dir, Chitral, and Baramcha. These attacks were allegedly aimed at facilitating the movement of militant formations into Pakistani territory.
Pakistan’s border posts, already on high alert, responded with precise and targeted strikes, escalating the situation into a large-scale engagement. The operation reportedly continues, targeting militant hideouts and preventing further incursions.
Regional Stability at Stake
The border conflict has raised alarms among regional powers concerned about broader instability. Gulf nations, especially Iran, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar, have a vested interest in preventing conflict from spilling across borders.
Their collective message stresses dialogue over confrontation. Diplomatic analysts believe these appeals could pave the way for mediation efforts if tensions continue.
As the situation remains volatile, both Pakistan and Afghanistan face growing international pressure to de-escalate and engage in direct negotiations.
