Fares set at Rs20; students and seniors to ride free
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif will launch an electric bus service in Rawalpindi on October 15, providing residents with a modern, affordable, and eco-friendly transportation option.
Speaking to APP, Pakistan Muslim League (N) Rawalpindi Division President Malik Abrar Ahmad confirmed that 87 air-conditioned electric buses will be introduced in phases across four routes. The first route will run from Rawat to Motorway Chowk, aimed at easing daily commutes and reducing urban congestion.
Fares have been fixed at Rs20 per ride, while students and senior citizens aged 60 and above will be able to travel free of charge.

Malik Abrar, who also chairs the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Cabinet Secretariat, said the project reflects a commitment to dignified, efficient public transport and will greatly benefit the city’s residents.
He described the initiative as a major public welfare project, adding that the people of Rawalpindi are ready to warmly welcome the chief minister. “This launch marks a turning point in improving urban mobility for all segments of society,” he said.
Malik Abrar further praised Maryam Nawaz’s broader governance vision, noting her focus on transparency, public service reforms, and progress in key sectors such as education, healthcare, infrastructure, and employment.
Among her flagship initiatives, he highlighted the school revamp programme, the mother and child hospitals, the green tractor scheme, subsidised food support, and digital governance reforms — all part of her mission to make Punjab a modern, welfare-oriented province.
