US President Donald Trump has announced that Palestinians will not be expelled from Gaza under his 20-point ceasefire plan. Speaking to reporters at the Oval Office on Thursday, Trump declared the agreement “all finalized and done” and emphasized that no forced displacement would occur.
Trump Rejects Claims of Forced Evacuation
“Nobody’s going to be forced to leave,” Trump said when asked if Palestinians would be expelled under the deal. “No, it’s just the opposite. We’re not looking to do that at all. This is a great peace plan supported by everybody,” he added, calling it a historic step toward lasting stability in the region.
President to Visit Middle East for Signing Ceremony
Trump said he intends to visit the Middle East this weekend and hopes to attend a signing ceremony in Egypt. “I think it’s going to be great. I think the hostages will be coming back on Monday or Tuesday,” he stated. He added that he plans to leave for the region on Sunday.
Key Provisions of the 20-Point Ceasefire Plan
Unveiled on September 29, the ceasefire plan includes the release of all Israeli captives in exchange for around 2,000 Palestinian prisoners. It also calls for a permanent ceasefire and a gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza. Phase two envisions new governance for Gaza without Hamas, supported by a Palestinian-Arab security force and Hamas’ disarmament.
Mixed Reactions and Next Steps
While Trump confirmed that the issue of Hamas disarmament would be addressed in the second phase, a Hamas representative rejected this condition, asserting the group’s continued right to armed resistance.
Israeli officials confirmed that all hostages, both living and deceased, would be released within 72 hours after the signing. Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar expressed hope that their release “should bring the end to this war.”
