ISLAMABAD: Security forces have successfully neutralized all terrorists responsible for the recent Orakzai attack that claimed the lives of Lt Col Junaid Tariq, Major Tayyab Rahat, and nine other soldiers. Security sources confirmed the operation’s success late on Thursday.
Foreign-Backed Network Dismantled
According to security officials, Pakistan’s forces eliminated 30 foreign-backed militants linked to the Oct 7–8 Orakzai assault. The terrorists belonged to Fitna-ul-Kharij, a violent network known for targeting both civilians and military personnel to destabilize the region. Officials stated that the operation completely wiped out the terrorist formation.
Intelligence-Based Operation in Orakzai
On the night of October 7 and 8, security forces launched an intelligence-based operation in Orakzai district after confirming the presence of Fitna al Khwarij members—an Indian-backed proxy group.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the forces killed 19 Indian-sponsored terrorists during the intense operation. The ISPR reported that the enemy network suffered severe losses and its regional command structure was destroyed.
Tribute to the Martyred Officers
During the fierce exchange of fire, Lieutenant Colonel Junaid Tariq (39, resident of Rawalpindi) led his troops from the front with unmatched courage. His Second-in-Command, Major Tayyab Rahat (33, also from Rawalpindi), fought bravely alongside him.
ISPR stated that both officers displayed extraordinary leadership and valor, inspiring their men until their final moments. Their sacrifice stands as a testament to Pakistan Army’s unwavering resolve to defend the nation.

Security officials reaffirmed that Pakistan’s armed forces remain determined to eliminate terrorism from every part of the country. They emphasized that the military will continue to pursue militants relentlessly to restore lasting peace and stability.
