American Jews Condemn Israel’s Genocide in Gaza
As Israel’s devastating war on Gaza enters its third year, opposition is mounting both globally and within the Jewish community. Increasingly, American Jews are condemning Israel’s actions as war crimes and genocide, marking a historic break in diaspora solidarity. This shift reflects a broader reckoning with Israel’s prolonged assault, launched after Hamas’s October 7 attack. From Washington to Sydney, global opinion is turning sharply against Israel’s ongoing offensive.
Polls Reveal Growing Discontent with Israel’s Leadership
A Washington Post poll reveals that 61% of American Jews believe Israel has committed war crimes in Gaza. About four in ten consider its actions genocidal toward Palestinians. Nearly one-third say the United States is too supportive of Israel, while over two-thirds hold a negative view of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s leadership. Still, many Jewish Americans remain emotionally tied to Israel and support continued US military aid.
Concerns Over Civilian Deaths and Humanitarian Crisis
The poll highlights that over 80% of US Jews worry about civilian deaths, Israeli hostages, and soldiers’ safety. Majorities believe Israel, Hamas, Netanyahu, and the US share responsibility for prolonging the war. Although emotionally attached to Israel, many demand accountability for its military conduct and urge an end to civilian suffering.
Americans’ Skepticism Toward Israel Deepens
According to the Pew Research Centre, skepticism of Israel’s government has risen dramatically. About 59% of Americans now view Israel’s government unfavorably, up from 51% in early 2024. Moreover, 39% say Israel is “going too far” in its military campaign — a sharp increase since 2023.
Divisions Over Trump’s Handling of the Conflict
A separate Pew survey finds that 42% of US adults disapprove of the Trump administration’s handling of the Gaza conflict, while 30% approve. Only 27% remain unsure. Partisan divides persist, as Republicans tend to support Trump’s stance while Democrats express growing concern over bias toward Israel.
Americans Demand More Humanitarian Support for Palestinians
One-third of Americans believe the United States provides too much military aid to Israel. In contrast, 35% say the US offers too little humanitarian support to Palestinians. Eight in ten Americans express concern about starvation, civilian deaths, and the plight of Israeli hostages.
Australians Also Urge End to Gaza Assault
A YouGov poll commissioned by the Australia Palestine Advocacy Network (APAN) shows that 69% of Australians want Israel to halt its Gaza offensive. Among them, 53% “strongly agree” that Netanyahu’s government must stop the war immediately, while only 14% disagree.
