Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif received a grand welcome upon his arrival in Malaysia on a three-day official visit. As he landed at Bunga Raya International Airport on Sunday night, Malaysian Minister of Communications Fahmi Fadzil received him. Pakistan’s High Commissioner Syed Ahsan Raza Shah and diplomatic staff were also present. Earlier on Monday, PM Shehbaz was given a guard of honour at the Perdana Putra Complex, the Office of the Malaysian Prime Minister. Both national anthems were played as the leaders stood at the salute dais.
Delegation-Level Talks Begin at Perdana Putra Complex
After the official reception, PM Shehbaz and his Malaysian counterpart, Anwar Ibrahim, addressed a joint press conference. They then introduced their respective delegations before holding a one-on-one meeting. Both sides later began delegation-level talks to strengthen Pakistan–Malaysia bilateral relations and identify new areas of partnership.
Focus on Trade, Technology, and the Halal Industry
The discussions centered on enhancing trade, investment, and economic cooperation. Both leaders agreed to explore new opportunities in information technology, telecommunications, the Halal industry, and education. Moreover, they emphasized joint initiatives in energy, infrastructure, the digital economy, and people-to-people connections.
Agreements and MoUs to Boost Cooperation
PM Shehbaz and PM Ibrahim are expected to witness the signing of multiple agreements and memorandums of understanding. These agreements will cover several sectors, reinforcing both countries’ long-term partnership. The Pakistani delegation includes Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, and Special Assistant Tariq Fatemi.
Shared Vision for Regional Stability and Growth
Before his departure, PM Shehbaz expressed his eagerness for productive discussions with his “dear brother,” PM Anwar Ibrahim. He stated that both nations share a strong commitment to advancing trade and economic collaboration. The leaders will also deliberate on important regional and global issues during the visit.
