The United Arab Emirates has unveiled extensive visa reforms, introducing new categories aimed at attracting talent and supporting communities. Officials confirmed that these changes aim to strengthen the countryโs role as a global hub for innovation, tourism, and trade.
Special Visas for Professionals and Events
The UAE has launched a special visa dedicated to artificial intelligence (AI) specialists. This step reflects the countryโs ambition to expand its technology sector. Additionally, a new event visa will now accommodate visitors attending festivals, exhibitions, conferences, and sporting activities. These categories are expected to boost participation in UAE-based events and further enhance its international profile.
Tourism and Maritime Options Expanded
Tourists arriving via cruise ships or leisure boats will now benefit from a multiple-entry maritime visa. This initiative makes travel more convenient for maritime tourists and strengthens the UAEโs image as a leading travel destination.
Humanitarian Residence Permits: UAE Introduces New Visa Rules
In a major humanitarian effort, the UAE will grant one-year residence permits to individuals fleeing wars or natural disasters. Importantly, these permits will not require sponsorship. Furthermore, widows and divorced women will also gain the right to residency without a sponsor, ensuring greater stability for vulnerable groups.
Updated Requirements for Sponsors
The updated visit visa rules now require sponsors to meet minimum income thresholds. Sponsors of first-degree relatives must earn at least AED 4,000. For second or third-degree relatives, the requirement is AED 8,000, while sponsoring a friend requires AED 15,000. Business visas will demand proof of solvency or company ownership abroad, while lorry drivers may only apply through licensed transport firms.
UAEโs Vision for the Future
Officials emphasized that these reforms align with the UAEโs long-term strategy to attract global expertise, promote technological advancement, and diversify its economy. The changes are also expected to enhance the UAEโs reputation as a welcoming destination for professionals, tourists, and those in need.
