ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Nursing and Midwifery Council (PNMC) has officially released a list of 38 fake nursing colleges on its website. These include five institutions in Islamabad, 25 in Punjab, five in Sindh, and two in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The announcement aims to protect students and parents from fraudulent institutions operating without proper authorization.
Advisory for Students and Parents
The PNMC has strongly warned that degrees from fake or unregistered colleges will not be recognized under any circumstances. The advisory urged students and parents to verify registrations before seeking admission, according to MMNews.tv.ย Despite repeated notices, several institutions continue admitting students, disregarding regulatory warnings.
Regulatory Delays Amid Ordinance: PNMC Exposes 38 Fake Nursing Colleges Across Pakistan
Reports indicate that the President of Pakistan recently issued an ordinance for the reconstitution of the Nursing Council. As a result, the process of registering and inspecting colleges has stalled temporarily. This delay has allowed fake institutions to exploit the gap and continue misleading students.
Nursing Shortage in Pakistan
Pakistan faces a critical shortage of qualified nurses. Although 755 institutions are registered with the PNMC, they are not producing nurses in the required numbers or quality. The presence of fake colleges further weakens the healthcare system by misleading students and failing to provide professional training.
Fake Colleges Identified by PNMC
The Council declared several institutions fake due to affiliations with unauthorized bodies. Notable names include Capital College of Nursing and Medical Health in Islamabad, Mardan College of Nursing in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Aman Institute of Health Sciences and Nursing in Karachi, and Midcare College of Nursing in Attock. Punjab accounted for the largest share of fake institutions, with multiple unrecognized colleges in Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Sialkot.
Urgent Need for Action
Sources confirmed that many of these colleges continue to admit students despite PNMC warnings. This situation raises concerns about the credibility of nursing education in Pakistan. Authorities now face pressure to accelerate inspections and strengthen enforcement to prevent exploitation.
