At least nine security personnel were martyred while eight others sustained injuries in a devastating car bomb blast in the Sarwekai area of Upper South Waziristan on Monday, according to police officials. The explosion targeted a security convoy in Molay Khan Sarai, an area that has witnessed sporadic militant activity in the past.
Police confirmed that the blast occurred when a vehicle packed with explosives detonated near security personnel on duty. The powerful explosion caused immediate casualties, with several soldiers martyred on the spot and others critically injured.
The impact of the blast was so severe that it left the area in chaos, with rescue teams rushing to evacuate the injured and shift them to a nearby hospital for urgent medical treatment. Emergency teams confirmed that at least eight injured security personnel are receiving care, while the condition of some remains critical.
Following the attack, law enforcement agencies and additional contingents of security forces swiftly moved to the site, cordoning off the area to prevent further damage.
The bomb disposal squad and investigators were also deployed to collect evidence and determine the nature and source of the explosives used in the attack. Officials have confirmed that it was indeed a car bomb blast, adding to concerns over the resurgence of militant activities in the region.
The incident underscores the persistent threat of terrorism faced by security personnel operating in volatile areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. South Waziristan, in particular, has been a hotspot for militant networks, and despite extensive military operations over the years, such attacks continue to pose grave challenges to security forces.
The latest assault is expected to intensify calls for stronger counterterrorism measures and greater intelligence coordination to prevent further tragedies.
The investigation is underway, and authorities have vowed to track down those responsible for orchestrating the deadly attack.
