The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has emerged victorious in the Sindh local government by-elections, securing success in 11 districts, according to unofficial results released on Wednesday. The PPP claimed five vice-chairman seats, while an independent candidate secured one.
The Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) won one general council seat, while Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) and other independents each managed to secure two seats.
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah congratulated the winning PPP candidates, stating that the party’s victory reflects the people’s trust and confidence in the leadership of Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari.
By-elections were conducted in 14 districts across Sindh for 28 local government seats. Polling began at 8 a.m. and continued until 5 p.m. in multiple districts including Karachi, Hyderabad, Dadu, Jamshoro, Matiari, Sukkur, Ghotki, Khairpur, Umarkot, Badin, and Thatta, the Election Commission of Sindh (ECP) confirmed.
To ensure transparency and order, the ECP set up a monitoring control room, while police maintained strict security arrangements. In Karachi’s East, West, and Keamari districts, 1,552 police officers were deployed.
The ECP highlighted that a total of 243,187 registered voters were eligible to cast their votes in these by-polls, comprising 133,038 men and 110,154 women.

In Karachi’s West district, a key contest was seen between PPP’s Shahnila Amir and Jamaat-e-Islami’s Khurshid Alam for a Union Council chairman seat, vacated after the death of PPP’s Amir Abulkalam.
Other contests included seats in Manghopir’s UC 10, Orangi, and Keamari’s TMC Baldia UC 8, also vacated due to the demise of sitting members. The provincial government declared a public holiday in the 14 districts to facilitate voters’ participation in the polls.
