ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has revealed the last date for filing income tax returns this year. FBR today reminded taxpayers that September 30 is the last date to file income tax returns. The FBR urged individuals and businesses to submit their returns on time to avoid penalties.
FBR Urges Honest Declarations
In a public message, FBR stressed the need for accuracy and transparency. Officials advised taxpayers, “Submit your income tax correctly and honestly.” The department warned that incomplete or false declarations could lead to strict legal consequences.
Simplified Return Form Introduced
To facilitate taxpayers, FBR has launched a new simplified return form. The redesigned format reduces complexities and aims to bring more people into the tax net. Authorities hope the user-friendly approach will improve compliance and expand documentation.
Crackdown on Jewellers
FBR has intensified its crackdown on jewellers who underpay taxes or remain outside the tax net. Notices have been issued in major cities, including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, and Multan. Officials revealed that Pakistan’s jewellery sector remains largely undocumented, creating serious revenue gaps.
Compliance Gaps in Jewellery Sector
According to officials, nearly 57,000 people are associated with the jewellery business, but only 20,000 are registered taxpayers. Among them, just 10,000 have filed tax returns, highlighting massive non-compliance. In one Islamabad market alone, authorities identified 50 jewellers operating without registration.
Social Media Users Under Scrutiny
In addition, FBR has launched action against wealthy individuals flaunting their luxury lifestyles online. The board has collected data on 100,000 people showcasing expensive homes, luxury cars, costly jewellery, and lavish weddings. Officials warned that those failing to update their returns will face legal proceedings.
Nationwide Efforts to Expand Tax Net
Through these measures, FBR seeks to expand the tax base, ensure fairness, and curb widespread evasion. The combination of deadlines, simplified forms, and strict enforcement signals the government’s firm resolve to strengthen Pakistan’s tax system.
