Pakistan Muslim League (Q) chief and former Prime Minister Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain has been elected as the Chairman of the Pakistan Bodybuilding Federation, marking his return to a leadership role in the sport.
The announcement was made during a meeting with Federation Secretary Sohail Anwar at Chaudhry Shujaatโs residence in Lahore. On the occasion, Shujaat congratulated Tariq Hassan and Sohail Anwar on Pakistanโs remarkable achievement of winning five gold medals at the Asian Bodybuilding Championship โ a feat described as historic for the nation.
Tariq Hassan lauded Chaudhry Shujaatโs long-standing services to the country, expressing hope that his leadership would benefit not just the federation but also the broader bodybuilding community. He stressed that Pakistani athletes deserve recognition and support beyond competitions, particularly in enhancing their financial stability and welfare.
In response, Chaudhry Shujaat reaffirmed his commitment to national athletes, calling them โheroesโ who bring pride to Pakistan. โPakistan is our country, and we are proud to serve it in every capacity,โ he said, pledging his full backing to the federationโs initiatives.
General Secretary Sohail Anwar welcomed the election as a highly positive step for the sport. He declared that this new chapter under Shujaatโs leadership would usher in a โnew era for bodybuilding in Pakistan.โ To honour the achievement and the leadership transition, Anwar revealed that a grand ceremony will be hosted in Lahore next month.
It is worth noting that Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain has previously served as President of the Pakistan Bodybuilding Federation, underlining his longstanding association with the sport.
His return is seen as a boost to bodybuilding in Pakistan, with many hopeful that his political stature and experience will bring greater support and visibility to athletes striving to raise the national flag in international competitions.
