Aryan Khan makes a bold and impressive debut as creator and director with his Netflix web series The Ba**ds of Bollywood*. Spread across seven episodes of fifty minutes each, this satire is a wild, entertaining ride into the chaotic, glamorous, and often absurd world of Hindi cinema.
The story follows Aasmaan Singh (Lakshya), an outsider who becomes an overnight superstar with his debut film Revolver. His career takes a twist when Karan Johar casts him in a launchpad film opposite Karishma Talvar (Sahher Bammba), daughter of India’s biggest superstar Ajay Talvar (Bobby Deol). From there unfolds a blend of love, drama, self-aware humor, and countless cameos, making it a thoroughly engaging watch.
Aryan Khan, with co-writers Bilal Siddiqi and Manav Chauhan, crafts a narrative that balances satire with wit. The series pokes fun at Bollywood’s inner workings — nepotism, PR machinery, and star tantrums — yet never turns dark or cynical.
Instead, it keeps the tone lively, making it an entertaining binge. The sharp writing ensures the humor lands effectively, while the climax elevates the show to another level with an unexpected twist.
Performances are a highlight. Lakshya delivers a magnetic screen presence as the ambitious outsider, while Sahher Bammba holds her own as the star kid. Bobby Deol, though initially unconvincing, redeems his character in the finale.
Raghav Juyal impresses with his impeccable comic timing, often stealing the spotlight, while Anya Singh shines as Aasmaan’s steadfast manager. Supporting performances from Manoj Pahwa, Mona Singh, Rajat Bedi, and Manish Chaudhari add further depth.
With its sharp humor, vibrant storytelling, and gutsy satire, The Ba**ds of Bollywood* stands out as one of the most refreshing web series of the season. Aryan Khan proves he has both vision and courage, making this spoof a gem worth watching.
