ICC rejects PCB demand to remove Andy Pycroft
The ICC has rejected the PCB demand to remove match referee Andy Pycroft.
According to Cricbuzz, the PCB wrote to both the ICC and Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) on Monday.
The board demanded Pycroftโs removal from the ongoing Asia Cup 2025 after the controversial Pakistan-India clash.
PCBโs Objection Over Handshake Issue
The high-voltage fixture began on a tense note as both captains skipped the traditional pre-match handshake. The PCB claimed Pycroft instructed players to avoid handshakes, violating the spirit of cricket and MCCโs code of conduct.
โNo handshakes occurred before or after the match, which broke long-standing cricketing traditions,โ the PCB wrote. The board accused Pycroft of failing to fulfil his responsibilities as match referee.
ICC Explains Decision: ICC rejects PCB demand
However, the ICC responded quickly, rejecting Pakistanโs request late Monday night.
Officials clarified that Asian Cricket Council (ACC) representatives, not Pycroft, decided against handshakes during the toss.
The ICC further stated that Pakistanโs belief about Pycroft acting on Indiaโs behalf was unfounded.
This clarification ended speculation regarding the refereeโs alleged bias during the tense fixture.
Change in Match Officials Expected
Meanwhile, ARY News reported Pycroft will not officiate in Pakistanโs upcoming matches during the tournament.
West Indian Richie Richardson is expected to step in as replacement referee for those fixtures.
Boycott Threat Raises Pressure
Earlier, reports indicated that Pakistan considered boycotting the Asia Cup unless Pycroft was replaced.
Insiders revealed the PCB tied Pakistanโs participation to corrective measures from the ICC.
The board maintained Pycroftโs actions undermined the gameโs spirit and violated established protocols.
This standoff now casts uncertainty over Pakistanโs future Asia Cup fixtures.
Must-Win Game Ahead
Pakistan must now refocus as they prepare to face the UAE in a crucial group-stage clash.
Victory is essential for Pakistan to qualify for the tournamentโs super four stage.
