Qatar’s Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani has urged the international community to hold Israel accountable for its actions and to end what he described as “double standards” in dealing with the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
His remarks came on Sunday during a preparatory meeting of foreign ministers in Doha ahead of an emergency Arab-Islamic summit. The call followed Israeli airstrikes on September 9 that targeted the residences of Hamas leaders in the Qatari capital, killing several individuals, including civilians, and leaving many others injured.
Sheikh Mohammed condemned the strikes as a blatant violation of Qatari sovereignty and international law, emphasizing that Israel’s aggression amounted to “crimes” that demand global accountability.
He further warned that attempts to forcibly displace Palestinians through “a war of extermination” would ultimately fail, reinforcing Qatar’s stance in support of the Palestinian cause.
The Israeli attacks have sparked widespread condemnation across the Arab and Islamic world. Governments and organizations in the region strongly criticized the strikes, framing them as unlawful and aggressive acts that threaten regional stability.
Saudi Arabia was among the first to stand with Qatar, with its Foreign Minister, Prince Faisal bin Farhan, leading Riyadh’s delegation to the summit. The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs denounced the Israeli actions as an “aggressive act” and reaffirmed its solidarity with Qatar, urging the global community to hold Israel accountable.
The joint Arab-Islamic summit, convened under Qatar’s leadership, brought together representatives from the Arab League and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
Delegates are expected to finalize a draft resolution in response to Israel’s strike on Doha, outlining a united Arab-Islamic position. The meeting underscores growing regional frustration over Israeli actions and highlights renewed efforts to build a collective response through diplomatic and political channels.
