Social media has become a double-edged sword. While it provides instant access to news, it also spreads misinformation rapidly. A recent claim sparked widespread debate online. Many posts suggested that the phrase “Earning a halal livelihood is worship” had been removed from Pakistani currency notes. However, after careful verification, this claim turned out to be false.
The Claim That Sparked Confusion
Several users on Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube repeated the same claim. They alleged that the words, once printed on the back of notes, had disappeared. This misinformation spread quickly, causing unnecessary confusion among the public.
Official Verification of the Phrase
Verification from official sources confirmed that the phrase is still present on Pakistani currency. The State Bank of Pakistan’s official website displays the design and security details of all denominations. Each of these notes still carries the phrase in Urdu: “حصولِ رزقِ حلال عبادت ہے.”
Unlike the older Rs500 note, where the words were printed at the bottom of the reverse side, the new banknotes display the phrase in a different style. Now, it appears inside a circular design placed on the upper left corner of the reverse side.
Currency Notes Carrying the Phrase
The phrase is not limited to one denomination. From the Rs10 note to the Rs5,000 note, the words appear clearly. They are an integral part of the design and remain visible to anyone who carefully checks the back of the notes.
Why Misinformation Spreads Easily
Misinformation often gains traction when people do not verify details before sharing. In this case, old and new note designs caused some confusion. Many users compared older notes with redesigned ones and assumed the phrase had been removed. Transitional differences in design styles added fuel to the speculation.
Importance of the Phrase
The phrase “Earning a halal livelihood is worship” carries deep cultural and spiritual significance in Pakistan. It reminds citizens that making an honest income is considered an act of devotion. Keeping this phrase on currency notes reinforces the value of integrity and ethical earning in daily life.
The claim about the removal of this phrase from Pakistani currency is false. The phrase continues to appear on all denominations, though in a revised design format. Social media users should be cautious and verify information through reliable sources before spreading claims.
