Prime Minister Calls for Regional Unity
Qatar’s Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani urged a “collective response” after Israel attacked Doha. Speaking to CNN on Wednesday, he warned that “the entire Gulf region is at risk.” He stressed that regional partners are discussing a joint plan to deter further Israeli aggression.
Leaders Condemn Israeli Strikes
Arab leaders swiftly traveled to Qatar to express solidarity after the strike. French President Emmanuel Macron also condemned Israel’s actions during a phone call with Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. Macron declared the strikes “unacceptable” and reaffirmed France’s support for Qatar’s sovereignty and security.
Attack Targets Hamas Officials in Doha
Israeli forces targeted Hamas leaders in Doha on Tuesday during a meeting about a Gaza ceasefire proposal by US President Donald Trump. The strike killed at least seven people. However, Hamas confirmed its leadership survived the attempted assassination. Qatar reported that two of its security officers also died.
Pressure Mounts on Israel
Prime Minister Al Thani accused Israeli leader Benjamin Netanyahu of driving the region into chaos. He urged a meaningful regional response to stop what he called Israel’s “bullying.” Reports suggest Arab nations are preparing legal action to hold Netanyahu accountable under international law.
Wider Regional Escalation
The strike on Doha formed part of a broader Israeli offensive outside its borders. In 72 hours, Israel struck six countries, extending attacks to seven nations since the year began. On Wednesday, Israeli airstrikes in Yemen killed 35 people, further escalating tensions.
Hezbollah Issues Warning
Hezbollah’s Deputy Secretary General Naim Kassem said Israel’s strike on Qatar served as a warning to Gulf states. He stressed support for Qatar and Palestinian resistance, accusing Israel of pursuing a “Greater Israel” across the Middle East.
