Ambassador Zaidong Highlights Outcomes of SCO Tianjin Summit
Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Jiang Zaidong said Tuesday that China and Pakistan will deepen cooperation under the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO).
He added the two countries will also jointly promote peace, stability, and development through President Xi Jinping’s Global Governance Initiative.
Speaking at a media briefing in Islamabad, Jiang outlined Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s recent visit to China and the outcomes of the SCO Tianjin Summit.
He also touched on the Global Governance Initiative and the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression.
SCO Expands, Moves Into High-Quality Development
Jiang said the Tianjin Summit concluded China’s “SCO Year” with unity, friendship, and practical achievements.
More than 20 heads of state and 10 leaders of international organisations attended, expanding SCO membership to 27.
President Xi Jinping held nearly 20 bilateral and multilateral meetings, pushing the organisation into what Jiang called “a new stage of high-quality development.”
Key outcomes included a 10-year strategy, plans for an SCO development bank, six cooperation platforms, four new security centres, and multiple action plans for growth.
China Announces New Support Measures
Ambassador Jiang noted President Xi’s announcements of 100 “small and beautiful” livelihood projects across member states.
China also pledged 2 billion yuan in aid this year, 10 billion yuan in SCO loans over three years, and 10,000 training opportunities in five years.
“These measures show China’s responsibility to promote global development and human progress,” Jiang said.
Pakistan’s Role Praised
The ambassador praised Pakistan’s active role at the summit.
He said both President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to regional cooperation.
“Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised the SCO as the platform that best reflects Pakistan’s commitment to integration,” Jiang noted.
Global Governance Initiative Gains Support
Jiang described the Global Governance Initiative as a major contribution to reforming international systems.
He explained its five principles: sovereign equality, rule of law, multilateralism, people-centred development, and action-oriented cooperation.
He added that Pakistan immediately voiced full support.
“Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said the initiative is a historic step toward stronger multilateralism,” Jiang said.
Remembering World War II Sacrifices
Jiang also marked the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression.
He said the commemoration was held to remember history, honour heroes, and reaffirm a collective commitment to peace.
