Al-Ahli secured a dramatic victory over Al-Nassr in the Saudi Super Cup final held in Hong Kong on Saturday, winning 5–3 on penalties following a thrilling 2–2 draw. The match was highlighted by Cristiano Ronaldo’s milestone achievement as he scored his 100th goal for Al-Nassr, making him the first player in football history to reach 100 competitive goals for four different clubs.
Ronaldo, 40, opened the scoring in the 40th minute with a penalty after Ali Majrashi was penalized for handball. His strike marked another landmark in the career of the five-time Ballon d’Or winner.
However, Al-Ahli responded quickly, with Franck Kessie equalizing in first-half stoppage time. Kessie capitalized on a precise pass from new signing Enzo Millot, slotting the ball low past Al-Nassr goalkeeper Bento to make it 1–1 heading into halftime.
The second half saw both sides push aggressively for a winner. Ronaldo tested Al-Ahli’s goalkeeper Edouard Mendy with a powerful shot, while Firas Al-Buraikan struck the post, denying Al-Nassr a second goal.
In the 82nd minute, Marcelo Brozovic restored Al-Nassr’s lead after converting a loose clearance, giving his side a temporary advantage. Al-Ahli, however, demonstrated resilience, equalizing once again in the 89th minute through Roger Ibanez, who headed in a Riyad Mahrez corner after Bento misjudged the flight of the ball.
With the score tied at 2–2, the match proceeded to penalties. Al-Ahli maintained perfect accuracy, converting all five of their spot-kicks. Although Ronaldo successfully converted his penalty, Al-Nassr missed one, handing the Jeddah-based club their second Saudi Super Cup title.
The victory capped a remarkable performance from Al-Ahli, who also won this year’s Asian Champions League, and underscored the dramatic and competitive nature of the final. Ronaldo’s milestone, while celebrated, could not prevent Al-Nassr from falling short, but it reinforced his status as one of football’s all-time greats.
The match will be remembered for its high intensity, late equalizers, and the historic achievements of one of the game’s most iconic players, making it a memorable final for fans of Saudi and international football alike.
