Ed Sheeran has opened up about the unfortunate loss of his £200,000 Aston Martin, describing it as “the worst purchase I ever made.” The singer shared the story during an appearance on Barry Keoghan’s YouTube show, GOAT Talk: Crowned by Culture, where he was promoting his highly anticipated eighth album, Play, set to release on September 2, 2025.
Recalling the incident, Sheeran explained that a single moment of misjudgment led to the car being lost. “I was driving back from the studio, and there’s this country lane that leads to my house. I came across this big puddle,” he said. Thinking it was harmless, he decided to drive slowly through the water. “I keep trying to start it, then I open my door, and all this water comes in. I left it on the road,” he admitted.
The consequences were immediate. Sheeran revealed, “Someone picked it up, and I haven’t seen it since.” Despite the financial and emotional setback, the singer shared the story with his characteristic humor, turning an unfortunate event into a relatable anecdote about life and mistakes.
During the interview, Sheeran also shared a lighter, nostalgic moment involving music from his past. He recounted listening to 50 Cent’s debut album, Get Rich or Die Tryin’, with his father, John Sheeran, while on a trip to Italy. “I was topless with a beer in my hand, explaining to him how great ‘If I Can’t’ was because it’s not a full eight-bar chorus—it’s six bars. I’m like, ‘This is genius,’” he said with a laugh, highlighting his ongoing love for music beyond his own work.
Despite the car mishap, Sheeran remains focused on his music, eagerly anticipating the release of Play. Fans can expect the album to showcase his signature storytelling and melodic craftsmanship. The singer’s candid reflections on both his luxury car loss and musical inspirations reveal a grounded, humorous, and introspective side of the superstar, offering fans a glimpse into his life offstage.
