Left-arm pacer Mohammad Amir reached a historic milestone in T20 cricket by becoming only the second Pakistani bowler to claim 400 wickets in the format. The achievement came during the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2025 while representing the Trinbago Knight Riders, where he dismissed Fabian Allen in the clash against Antigua and Barbuda Falcons at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, North Sound, on Wednesday.
Amir reached the landmark in his 343rd T20 match, cementing his place among the elite group of bowlers worldwide. His tally now places him ninth on the all-time list of wicket-takers in the shortest format of the game. Among Pakistanis, only Wahab Riaz stands ahead of him, with 413 wickets in 348 games.
Wahabโs record includes three five-wicket hauls, along with an impressive economy rate of 7.54, keeping him as Pakistanโs leading wicket-taker in the format.
Despite Amirโs achievement, the night belonged to Antigua and Barbuda Falcons, who secured an eight-run win in a thrilling contest. Led by skipper Imad Wasim, the Falcons posted 167 for six in their allotted 20 overs. A crucial 69-run partnership for the sixth wicket between Imad Wasim and Fabian Allen turned the game around.
Allen hammered 45 off just 20 balls, striking three fours and three sixes, while Imad contributed a steady 39 from 27 deliveries, which included a four and two sixes. Wicketkeeper-batter Jewel Andrew added 22 off 25, though most of the top order struggled to get going.
For Trinbago Knight Riders, Usman Tariq (2/37) and Nathan Edward (2/56) were the standout bowlers, while Amir and Akeal Hosein managed a wicket each.
Chasing 168, the Knight Riders fought hard but ultimately fell short, finishing at 159 for six in their 20 overs. Colin Munro provided fireworks with a rapid 44 off 18 balls, hitting eight boundaries and a six, while Kieron Pollard remained unbeaten on 43 off 28, striking three fours and four sixes. Keacy Carty also contributed 35 from 31 deliveries, but the middle order faltered under pressure.
Obed McCoy proved to be the game-changer for the Falcons, returning figures of 4/39. He was well supported by Rahkeem Cornwall and Shakib Al Hasan, who picked up two wickets each, ensuring their side sealed an important victory.
While the Falcons celebrated their win, Amirโs personal milestone stood out as a major achievement, further enhancing his reputation as one of Pakistanโs finest T20 bowlers.
