In a significant move to modernize and enhance the province’s livestock sector, the Punjab government has launched its first-ever comprehensive internship program for 1,000 veterinary graduates and paraveterinary professionals. With a robust budget allocation of Rs. 600 million, the initiative is poised to make a lasting impact by providing financial support and valuable field experience to young professionals in the veterinary and livestock industries.
Under the Chief Minister’s Internship Program, veterinary graduates holding a DVM (Doctor of Veterinary Medicine) degree approved by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) will receive a competitive monthly stipend of Rs. 60,000. In addition, paraveterinary professionals and livestock assistants, including those with two-year LAD (Livestock Assistant Diploma) qualifications, will be offered Rs. 40,000 per month. This generous stipend is intended to alleviate financial constraints while ensuring interns can focus on gaining practical experience and contributing to the province’s agricultural and livestock development.
The Chief Minister of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, emphasized the transformative potential of the program. She pointed out that the initiative would not only provide vital animal treatment and consultation services directly to livestock farmers but also empower the younger generation with essential fieldwork exposure. By providing these services at the farmers’ doorsteps, the government aims to modernize the livestock sector, enhance productivity, and ensure better animal health practices across the region.
The program also aligns with the broader vision of strengthening Punjab’s agricultural output, particularly in milk and meat production, which are vital contributors to the province’s economy. Chief Minister Nawaz Sharif highlighted that increasing livestock productivity could significantly boost foreign exchange reserves, making the province a central player in the global livestock and dairy markets.
Additionally, quotas have been specifically allocated for Veterinary Assistants, AI Technicians, and Lab Assistants in all 36 districts of Punjab, ensuring equitable opportunities for young professionals across the province. Candidates interested in applying for the program can easily submit their applications through the official portal at www.jobs.punjab.gov.pk.
With this initiative, the Punjab government aims to foster a thriving, modern livestock industry while creating long-term employment opportunities for the youth, ultimately transforming the province into a key hub for livestock and dairy development.
