New Command Announced Amid Post-Conflict Reforms
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has officially announced the creation of the Army Rocket Force Command to boost Pakistan’s conventional military strength. The declaration was made during a grand ceremony at Islamabad’s Jinnah Sports Stadium, marking the 79th Independence Day and celebrating the recent military success in the conflict with India—dubbed Marka-i-Haq (Battle of Truth).
The newly established force, equipped with advanced missile technology, is intended to enhance Pakistan’s ability to strike targets from multiple directions. “This force will serve as a milestone in strengthening our conventional war capabilities,” the prime minister said. Pakistan showcased its missile systems alongside J-10C and JF-17 fighter jets during the recent hostilities, underscoring the country’s growing deterrent.
Military Unity and Strategic Deterrence Highlighted
The formation of the new command follows a 20% increase in Pakistan’s defence budget for the fiscal year 2025–2026. Defence analyst and retired general Talat Masood described the move as a strategic step to further strengthen national security after the recent border conflict with India.
The Independence Day event saw participation from top leadership, including President Asif Ali Zardari and COAS Field Marshal Asim Munir. A military parade featured all branches of Pakistan’s armed forces, with international participation from Turkiye and Azerbaijan.
PM Shehbaz also praised the leadership of COAS Munir and other military chiefs for their swift response in the conflict, calling it a “decisive victory.” The event included the unveiling of a digital model of the Marka-i-Haq Monument and a call for a national unity pact, Misaq-i-Istehkam-i-Pakistan, inviting all political parties to come together in the national interest.
In closing, the premier reaffirmed that Pakistan’s nuclear weapons are meant solely for defence, honouring key figures behind the atomic programme.
