GAZA CITY: A final message from Anas Jamal Al Sharif, a young Al Jazeera journalist tragically killed in an Israeli airstrike, has gone viral, capturing hearts and stirring grief across social media platforms. In his final will, Al Sharif issued a heartfelt plea to the world: “Do not forget Gaza.”
The 28-year-old journalist was among five media workers, including four from Al Jazeera, killed when Israeli forces targeted a tent near Shifa Hospital in eastern Gaza City, according to both Gazan health officials and Al Jazeera. Al Sharif had been reporting from the heart of the conflict—often under bombardment—dedicated to showing the world the suffering and strength of Palestinians amid war.
Anticipating the worst, Al Sharif had prepared a “will”—a final message to be shared if he were killed. Following his death, his poignant letter was posted on his X (formerly Twitter) account, quickly spreading worldwide.
“This is my will and my final message. If these words reach you, know that Israel has succeeded in killing me and silencing my voice,” the message began. “First, peace be upon you and Allah’s mercy and blessings.”
A Voice Silenced, But Not Forgotten
In his deeply emotional message, Al Sharif described a life shaped by war, displacement, and resilience. Born and raised in the Jabalia refugee camp, he wrote:
“Allah knows I gave every effort and all my strength to be a support and a voice for my people, ever since I opened my eyes to life in the alleys and streets of Jabalia.”
He expressed longing for his ancestral home in Asqalan (Al-Majdal), lamenting that he would never return.
“But Allah’s will came first, and His decree is final,” he said.
Al Sharif did not hold back in confronting the global silence and inaction over the continued loss of Palestinian lives:
“I never hesitated to convey the truth… so that Allah may bear witness against those who stayed silent, those who accepted our killing.”
A Plea for Palestine and His Family
In a powerful passage, Al Sharif entrusted the world with Palestine’s cause:
“I entrust you with Palestine—the jewel in the crown of the Muslim world, the heartbeat of every free person in this world… Be bridges toward the liberation of the land and its people.”
He also spoke directly to his family, pouring out love and sorrow.
“I entrust you with my beloved daughter, Sham, the light of my eyes… and my son, Salah, whom I wished to support and guide through life.”
He thanked his mother for her prayers and spoke tenderly of his wife:
“I entrust you with my lifelong companion, my beloved wife, Umm Salah (Bayan), from whom the war separated me for many long days and months.”
Ending his message with spiritual peace, Al Sharif wrote:
“If I die, I die steadfast upon my principles… I am content with His decree… Do not forget Gaza… And do not forget me in your sincere prayers for forgiveness and acceptance.”
The post concluded with a heartbreaking note:
“This is what our beloved Anas requested to be published upon his martyrdom.”
As tributes flood in, Anas Al Sharif’s voice lives on—through his final words, his unwavering commitment to truth, and his call to the world: Never forget Gaza.
