Five Killed in Wedding Jeep Accident Near Muzaffarabad
MUZAFFARABAD โ In a heartbreaking tragedy, five people lost their lives when a jeep carrying wedding guests veered off the road and plunged into a deep ravine near the village of Apramirdaban, Muzaffarabad.
Among the deceased were three women and a child. At least eight other passengers sustained injuries in the accident, with sixโincluding the driverโreported to be in critical condition. The injured were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for urgent medical care.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, with initial reports suggesting the vehicle may have lost control due to the challenging terrain or mechanical failure. The tragedy has cast a pall over the local community, where residents are mourning the untimely loss of life during what should have been a joyful occasion.
Separate Accidents in Jhelum Valley and Dera Ismail Khan Add to Grim Toll
In a separate incident earlier this week, a school van carrying students plunged into a ravine near Chakhar in the Jhelum Valley, injuring at least 30 people, including children. Police confirmed that the van driver and two children remain in critical condition. The injured were transported to the District Headquarters Hospital in Hattian Bala for treatment.
Meanwhile, in Dera Ismail Khanโs remote Sheerani area of Darazinda, four peopleโincluding a minorโwere killed when a car returning from the scenic spot of Almar Kalan also fell into a ravine. The victims included two brothers and a seven-year-old child. Two other family members sustained injuries and were taken to a local hospital, where they are reportedly in stable condition.
These back-to-back accidents have reignited concerns over road safety in mountainous and rural areas, where inadequate road infrastructure, lack of guardrails, and risky driving conditions continue to contribute to fatal incidents.
