US Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene has fiercely pushed back against the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) after the powerful pro-Israel lobby accused her of betraying “American values” for calling Israel’s actions in Gaza a genocide.
“AIPAC is lying to their donors, claiming I’m ‘betraying my American values,’ when the reality is AIPAC 1,000,000% serves and lobbies for a foreign country, Israel!” Greene wrote in a social media post on Thursday. “I’m as AMERICAN as they come! I can’t be bought and I’m not backing down!! Bring. It. On.”
Her remarks came after AIPAC sent a fundraising email to supporters accusing her of joining “anti-Israel” lawmakers such as Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar, saying she was “spouting the same vile rhetoric and voting against the US-Israel alliance.”
Responding to the criticism, Greene highlighted her independence from lobbyist influence, stating she is “one of the only members of Congress” who does not take money from AIPAC, which she noted donates far more to Republicans than Democrats.
AIPAC fired back, labelling her comments “disgusting” and branding her “the newest member of the anti-Israel Squad,” calling her stance “a betrayal of American values” and “a dangerous distortion of the truth.”
Greene’s current position marks a departure from her earlier views, as she has joined a growing chorus of Make America Great Again (MAGA)-aligned conservatives condemning Israel’s military campaign in Gaza. With mounting civilian casualties and harrowing images of starving children emerging, she has repeatedly referred to the situation as genocide.
Hunger and humanitarian concerns in Gaza have also drawn attention from former US President Donald Trump, who on July 28 remarked that “real starvation” was taking place, contradicting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s denials.
The United Nations World Food Programme has described the humanitarian crisis as “widespread starvation, malnutrition, and disease,” with hunger-related deaths continuing to rise.
