US Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene has fiercely pushed back against the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) after the powerful pro-Israel lobby accused her of betraying โAmerican valuesโ for calling Israelโs actions in Gaza a genocide.
โAIPAC is lying to their donors, claiming Iโm โbetraying my American values,โ when the reality is AIPAC 1,000,000% serves and lobbies for a foreign country, Israel!โ Greene wrote in a social media post on Thursday. โIโm as AMERICAN as they come! I canโt be bought and Iโm not backing down!! Bring. It. On.โ
Her remarks came after AIPAC sent a fundraising email to supporters accusing her of joining โanti-Israelโ lawmakers such as Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar, saying she was โspouting the same vile rhetoric and voting against the US-Israel alliance.โ
Responding to the criticism, Greene highlighted her independence from lobbyist influence, stating she is โone of the only members of Congressโ who does not take money from AIPAC, which she noted donates far more to Republicans than Democrats.
AIPAC fired back, labelling her comments โdisgustingโ and branding her โthe newest member of the anti-Israel Squad,โ calling her stance โa betrayal of American valuesโ and โa dangerous distortion of the truth.โ
Greeneโs current position marks a departure from her earlier views, as she has joined a growing chorus of Make America Great Again (MAGA)-aligned conservatives condemning Israelโs military campaign in Gaza. With mounting civilian casualties and harrowing images of starving children emerging, she has repeatedly referred to the situation as genocide.
Hunger and humanitarian concerns in Gaza have also drawn attention from former US President Donald Trump, who on July 28 remarked that โreal starvationโ was taking place, contradicting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahuโs denials.
The United Nations World Food Programme has described the humanitarian crisis as โwidespread starvation, malnutrition, and disease,โ with hunger-related deaths continuing to rise.
