Son of Sardaar 2 made a promising start at the box office with its Day 1 performance, collecting an estimated ₹6.75 crore India net on its opening Friday. However, the momentum did not carry forward into the second day.
Early estimates for Day 2 (Saturday) indicate a steep drop, with collections around ₹0.25 crore India net so far. This brings the two-day total to approximately ₹7 crore net in India.
It’s important to note that the Day 2 figure is based on live data, including only the next two hours of advance bookings. Final estimates will be updated by 10 PM, and media outlets have been advised not to treat the current numbers as final until the full-day data is available.
Occupancy rates on Saturday appeared lower compared to the opening day, possibly due to mixed word-of-mouth and competition from other releases. Despite the sharp decline on Day 2, the film may still see a pickup on Sunday, which typically draws more footfall in theatres, especially among family audiences.
Son of Sardaar 2 is the sequel to the 2012 hit Son of Sardaar, which starred Ajay Devgn and was released alongside Shah Rukh Khan’s Jab Tak Hai Jaan.
Despite facing tough competition during its first installment, the original film performed well at the box office, and expectations for the sequel were high. The makers hoped to replicate that success with this latest release, especially with Ajay Devgn returning in a lead role and Mrunal Thakur joining the cast.
In terms of comparisons, Ajay Devgn has delivered several box office hits over the years, including Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior (₹277.75 Cr), Singham Again (₹247.86 Cr), and Drishyam 2 (₹239.67 Cr). Meanwhile, Son of Sardaar had collected ₹105.1 Cr during its theatrical run, setting a benchmark that the sequel now struggles to meet.
For Mrunal Thakur, Son of Sardaar 2 marks another major Bollywood release after films like Super 30 (₹147.39 Cr) and Batla House (₹99.24 Cr). While her role in the film has drawn attention, the box office numbers so far remain modest.
With Sunday still ahead, industry analysts will closely watch to see if Son of Sardaar 2 can recover from its slow Saturday and gain some traction at the box office. However, with a significant drop from Day 1 to Day 2, the film may face an uphill battle in maintaining a strong theatrical run.
