ISLAMABAD: As Pakistan and the United States conclude a significant phase of economic diplomacy with the historic trade negotiations, a new era is emerging — this time in the digital economy.
On July 31, a high-level meeting between Bilal Bin Saqib, Pakistan’s Minister of State for Crypto and Blockchain, and Bo Hines, Executive Director of President Trump’s Council of Advisers on Digital Assets, signaled a strategic pivot in U.S.–Pakistan relations. The conversation centered on global crypto policy coordination and Pakistan’s bold vision to position itself as a regional leader in Web3 innovation.
The engagement came just one day after the United States launched its long-anticipated Digital Asset Framework — a comprehensive roadmap for regulating digital assets globally. The timing and content of the discussions point to an emerging digital alliance between Islamabad and Washington.
This evolving partnership suggests that Pakistan and the U.S. are expanding their relationship beyond trade — toward deeper cooperation on crypto legislation and blockchain development.
The meeting follows Bilal Bin Saqib’s pivotal visit to the United States in June, during which he held high-level talks with prominent U.S. lawmakers, including Senators Cynthia Lummis, Tim Sheehy, and Rick Scott, along with New York City Mayor Eric Adams and Bo Hines.
Saqib also serves as the CEO of the Pakistan Crypto Council (PCC), the country’s primary regulatory body for digital assets. The PCC is tasked with steering the national crypto strategy, developing licensing regimes for Virtual Asset Service Providers (VASPs), and promoting blockchain adoption across key sectors including finance, logistics, agriculture, and public services.
As the digital asset landscape evolves globally, the deepening U.S.–Pakistan dialogue reflects a shared recognition: blockchain and crypto are no longer fringe technologies—they are now central to shaping the future of global finance and governance.
