Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, while chairing a high-level review meeting of the Steering Committee on Counter-Terrorism and the Establishment of the State Writ (Harden the State) on Thursday, reiterated the governmentโs unwavering commitment to eliminate terrorism from Pakistan.
Addressing officials at the meeting, the prime minister emphasized that Pakistan is determined to root out terrorism in all its forms. He noted that the international community has recognized the success of Pakistan’s counter-terrorism operations in the past.
Highlighting the stateโs comprehensive approach, he stated, โPakistan has adopted a multi-pronged strategy that includes ground operations, effective legislation, impactful public messaging, and the rejection of extremist ideologies.โ He stressed the importance of federal and provincial coordination in implementing the committeeโs anti-terrorism recommendations and ensuring their strict execution.
Shehbaz Sharif paid tribute to the armed forces, law enforcement personnel, and intelligence agencies, acknowledging their bravery and sacrifices. โThe entire nation salutes the officers and soldiers who laid down their lives for the country. Their familiesโ spirit of sacrifice is a source of pride,โ he said.
The premier lauded major military operations like Zarb-e-Azb, Radd-ul-Fasaad, and the recent Marka-e-Haq, describing them as pivotal in Pakistanโs fight against militancy. He specifically praised the role of the Punjab Counter-Terrorism Department, the Intelligence Bureau, and the Ministry of Interior for their contributions.
Furthermore, the PM said that Pakistan is formulating an effective national strategy to combat extremist forces such as Fitna-al-Hindustan and Fitna-al-Khawarij, which pose threats to societal cohesion.
He also linked the anti-terror drive to economic recovery, noting that coordinated crackdowns on smuggling have yielded positive economic outcomes, and emphasized the government’s efforts to digitize systems and reform taxation to improve investor confidence.
He concluded by highlighting the ongoing and lawful repatriation of illegal Afghan residents, stating it is progressing effectively in accordance with international norms.
