The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Friday confirmed that Mohammad Rizwan will continue to captain the national side in the upcoming three-match ODI series against West Indies, scheduled to take place at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad and Tobago on August 8, 10, and 12. The announcement came alongside the release of a 16-member ODI squad, selected by the Men’s National Selection Committee.
The squad features several senior players including Babar Azam, Shaheen Shah Afridi, and Fakhar Zaman, providing a strong mix of experience and talent. Notably, Hasan Nawaz, a promising right-handed batter, has received his maiden call-up and is the only uncapped player in the squad. Rizwan, who has consistently performed across formats, retains his leadership role, while Salman Ali Agha has been appointed vice-captain for the ODI leg.
In addition to the ODI series, Pakistan is also set to play three T20 Internationals against the West Indies on July 31, August 2, and August 3 at Central Broward Park in Lauderhill, Florida, USA. For the T20I series, the leadership baton has been handed to Salman Ali Agha, signaling a rotation in captaincy strategy and a chance to test new combinations ahead of upcoming ICC tournaments.
Several key players return to the T20 setup, including pace spearheads Shaheen Shah Afridi, Haris Rauf, and Hasan Ali. The T20 squad also includes power-hitters like Saim Ayub, Fakhar Zaman, and wicket-keeper batter Mohammad Haris, while uncapped Sahibzada Farhan, who recently impressed with a fifty in the final T20I against Bangladesh, retains his spot as one of the two wicket-keepers.
The PCB also confirmed that the team will arrive in the USA on July 27, following the completion of the T20I series in Bangladesh, where Pakistan claimed a consolation 74-run win in the third match, though Bangladesh took the series 2-1. In that final game, Salman Mirza was a standout performer, taking three wickets, while Sahibzada Farhan’s aggressive half-century helped Pakistan finish the series on a high note.
