Tehran/Islamabad — Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian is set to embark on an official visit to Pakistan on July 26, underscoring the growing cooperation between the two neighboring countries. The announcement was made by Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei during a press briefing, according to reports by Tasnim News and The News.
Baqaei emphasized that the visit reflects Iran’s strong commitment to deepening relations with Pakistan, which are grounded in shared historical, cultural, and religious values. He noted that recent developments have led to increased diplomatic engagement between Tehran and Islamabad.
Regional Tensions and Rising Diplomatic Engagement
The Iranian spokesperson pointed out that ties between the two countries have grown stronger following Israeli and U.S. military aggression targeting Iran last month.
He detailed that from June 13, Israeli forces launched coordinated attacks on Iranian military, nuclear, and residential sites over a 12-day period. This was followed by U.S. airstrikes on key Iranian nuclear facilities in Natanz, Fordow, and Isfahan on June 22.
In retaliation, Iran launched Operation True Promise III, during which the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) carried out 22 waves of missile strikes on Israeli positions across the occupied territories. Iran also targeted the al-Udeid air base in Qatar, the largest U.S. military base in West Asia. The conflict came to a halt with a ceasefire on June 24.
Iran Offers Support to Pakistan Amid Flood Crisis
Ahead of the visit, Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni held a phone call with Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, extending condolences for the recent flood-related casualties and damage in Pakistan.
Momeni assured full Iranian support, saying, “We stand with the government and people of Pakistan in this difficult time,” and expressed readiness to provide humanitarian aid to flood-affected regions.
The two ministers also discussed President Pezeshkian’s upcoming visit, with Minister Naqvi expressing enthusiasm about welcoming the Iranian leader to Islamabad. He also thanked the Iranian government for its solidarity and support.
