The long-awaited and highly anticipated animated film Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse has experienced yet another delay, pushing back its release date slightly from the originally announced schedule.
Initially slated to hit theaters in March 2024, the concluding chapter of Sony’s critically acclaimed Spider-Verse trilogy was removed from the studio’s release calendar due to production setbacks, including the industry-wide disruption caused by the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike. The strike led to significant halts in voice work and post-production processes, delaying progress on the ambitious animated project.
Earlier this year, Sony Pictures confirmed that Beyond The Spider-Verse would finally swing into cinemas worldwide on June 4, 2027, reigniting excitement among fans who have eagerly awaited closure to the trilogy. However, according to a new report from The Hollywood Reporter, the film’s premiere has now been pushed back again—albeit by a few weeks—with the updated release date set for June 25, 2027.
Industry insiders suggest that the short delay is a strategic move aimed at maximizing the film’s audience during the summer holidays in the United States. The revised date aligns with the start of school breaks, giving the animated feature a better shot at attracting young viewers during its opening weeks. Additionally, this new date is said to be more favorable for international markets.
Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse will pick up directly after the events of Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse, which ended on a cliffhanger. The story follows Miles Morales, who finds himself face-to-face with a darker version of himself in the parallel Earth-42 universe. Meanwhile, Gwen Stacy gathers a team of allies—Spider-Man Noir, Spider-Ham, Peni Parker, and others—to rescue him.
The voice cast is led by Shameik Moore as Miles Morales, with returning stars Jake Johnson, Hailee Steinfeld, Mahershala Ali, Brian Tyree Henry, Lauren Vélez, Jason Schwartzman, Issa Rae, Daniel Kaluuya, and Oscar Isaac. This third and final installment is expected to bring closure to a trilogy that began with Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse (2018), an Oscar-winning film that redefined animation in superhero cinema.
Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse, the trilogy’s second entry, was ranked 11th on NME’s list of best films of 2023 and received widespread praise for its groundbreaking visual style and inventive storytelling.
In related Spider-Man developments, actor Tom Holland recently spoke about the upcoming live-action Marvel film Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which is scheduled for release on July 31, 2026. Speaking on the Flip Your Wig YouTube channel, Holland revealed that the production has returned to real-world locations for filming—a departure from the studio-bound shoot of Spider-Man: No Way Home, which was limited by COVID-19 restrictions.
As anticipation builds for both animated and live-action entries in the Spider-Man universe, fans will need a little more patience before Miles Morales returns to the big screen.
