Apple is gearing up to release the second-generation AirTag tracker later this year. While the changes may appear subtle at first glance, AirTag 2 is set to deliver meaningful improvements in both tracking precision and user safety.
The updated device will be unveiled at Apple’s annual September event alongside the iPhone 17 series. Initially rumored for a spring 2025 debut, the launch has now been pushed to the second half of the year.

The next-gen AirTag will reportedly feature an upgraded ultra-wideband (UWB) chip—the same advanced version introduced with the iPhone 15 lineup. This new chip is expected to dramatically improve Precision Finding, tripling the effective range from 30 meters to up to 90 meters. This means users will be able to locate misplaced items more easily and over longer distances.
The enhanced UWB technology will also bring greater location accuracy and more stable connectivity across Apple’s Find My network, making the AirTag 2 more reliable than ever.
