Tragic Bus Accident
At least five people lost their lives and 41 others were injured after a passenger bus overturned near the Chakri Interchange on Sunday. The tragic incident occurred when the bus, which was en route from Rawalpindi to Lahore, skidded off the motorway and toppled into a roadside ditch. According to the Motorway Police, slippery road conditions caused the driver to lose control, resulting in the devastating accident.
The bus was reportedly carrying a total of 42 passengers at the time of the crash. Rescue teams and Motorway Police quickly arrived at the scene to provide immediate assistance. They worked diligently to administer first aid to the injured passengers and stabilize those in critical condition.
Following the initial emergency response, the wounded were transported to medical facilities, including District Headquarters Hospital Chakwal and Benazir Bhutto Hospital in Rawalpindi, where they received further treatment.
The circumstances of the crash highlight the hazards posed by wet and slippery roads, which can severely impact vehicle control, especially for large passenger buses traveling at high speeds on motorways. Authorities are investigating the exact cause of the accident, including whether speed or mechanical failure may have contributed alongside the road conditions.
Among the tragic toll, one woman was fortunate enough to survive the crash without any injuries, an exceptional outcome considering the severity of the overturn. Her survival provides a small glimmer of hope amid the sorrow of the incident.
The Motorway Police have urged drivers to exercise extreme caution, particularly during adverse weather or road conditions, emphasizing the importance of safe driving practices to prevent such accidents.
The authorities also assured that a thorough inquiry will be conducted to ensure accountability and improve safety measures along the motorway.
Local communities and officials have expressed their condolences to the families of the victims and have pledged support for the injured as they undergo medical care.
This accident serves as a somber reminder of the ongoing challenges in ensuring road safety on Pakistan’s highways and the urgent need for continued vigilance and infrastructure improvements.
