NADRA
Pakistani citizens can obtain an essential identity document known as the Family Registration Certificate (FRC) through the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), which serves as official proof of family relationships based on the authority’s records.
The FRC is used in various legal and administrative processes, including visa applications, immigration, and verification of familial connections.
As part of its updated procedures in July 2025, NADRA has introduced new regulations to enhance the accuracy and credibility of the FRC issuance process.
One of the key changes is the requirement for applicants to provide an assurance verifying the authenticity of the data they submit. This step aims to reduce misinformation and ensure that all family records reflect true and verified relationships.
The revised system now categorizes FRCs under three distinct family types:
- Alpha (By Birth): Lists family members based on biological relations.
- Beta (By Marriage): Includes the spouse and in-laws linked through marriage.
- Gamma (By Adoption): Covers adopted children registered under the applicant’s family.
In cases where family members are missing from the NADRA records, the applicant must ensure they are registered before applying for the FRC. Likewise, any inaccuracies in the listed information, such as incorrect names, relationships, or missing details, can be rectified either by visiting a NADRA Registration Center (NRC) or through the NADRA mobile application, Pak Identity.
A notable improvement in the new FRC format is its ability to clearly document the family details of men who have contracted multiple marriages. Unlike the previous system, which often created confusion in such scenarios, the updated FRC now presents a more transparent view of familial ties.
Applying for an FRC is straightforward and can be done via two methods: in person by visiting the nearest NADRA Registration Center (NRC), or remotely by using the Pak Identity mobile app, which facilitates digital applications.
As of July 2025, the standard fee for obtaining any type of FRC is Rs. 1,000. However, if an applicant wishes to combine two categories—for example, FRC by birth and by marriage—on the same document, the fee will be doubled to Rs. 2,000.
These updates reflect NADRA’s continued efforts to modernize its documentation services while ensuring greater accuracy, accessibility, and transparency for all Pakistani citizens.
