RAWALPINDI โ In a significant political overture, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday visited former interior minister and long-time PML-N associate Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan at his residence in Rawalpindi, expressing a renewed desire to mend ties and pursue political cooperation.
During the meeting, which marked their second interaction in eight years, the two leaders shared a warm exchange, with the prime minister presenting a bouquet and offering prayers for Nisarโs health and well-being.
Sources familiar with the meeting said the discussion included personal reflections and political dialogue, as well as conversations on national issues. In a friendly tone, PM Shehbaz said, โIt seems you have forgotten us,โ to which Chaudhry Nisar responded by citing his recent health struggles as the reason for staying away from political engagement.
Prime Minister Shehbaz emphasized the importance of political unity and urged Nisar to move beyond โminor differencesโ for the greater good of the country. However, Chaudhry Nisar did not give an immediate commitment, stating he would consult with his close associates before making any decisions about future political involvement.
The meeting also saw the presence of Chaudhry Taimoor, son of Chaudhry Nisar, underscoring the personal nature of the visit. The prime minister reiterated the need to keep communication channels open as the country faces political and economic challenges.
This outreach signals another attempt by PM Shehbaz to bring back seasoned political allies into the fold, potentially reshaping dynamics within the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).
