KARACHI: In a significant operation against drug trafficking, Karachi police have arrested social media influencer and former model Babra, popularly known as Bebo Baloch, in the city’s upscale Defence area on charges of supplying crystal meth (commonly known as “ice”) and cocaine.
The arrest was made by Darakhshan Police during an intelligence-led raid near 26th Street, Khayaban-e-Badar in Defence Phase 5. According to officials, Babra was caught with a quantity of ice, a highly addictive and illegal narcotic.
Babra gained fame through TikTok and modelling but has a criminal history, being listed in the Special Branch’s B-Category surveillance list. She had previously been arrested twice in theft cases by both Darakhshan and Sahil police stations.
Social Media as a Drug Distribution Tool
During preliminary questioning, the suspect admitted to using social media platforms to deliver drugs, mainly targeting affluent youth in DHA and other elite areas of Karachi. She told investigators that she entered the modelling world in 2007, but personal struggles—including her mother’s remarriage in 2017—led her to move into a flat in Khayaban-e-Muslim Commercial, where she started producing online content.
According to her confession, exposure to narcotics at high-profile parties in posh neighbourhoods eventually led her to addiction. This, in turn, drew her into the drug distribution network.
Police Identify Accomplices, Expand Investigation
Babra reportedly named multiple accomplices during interrogation. Police have launched a manhunt to arrest other members of the suspected drug ring, which authorities believe operated a well-structured network using social media to market and deliver narcotics discreetly.
A case has been registered under the Anti-Narcotics Act, and the investigation is ongoing as law enforcement continues its crackdown on drug-related crime in the city.
