The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a weather advisory warning of thunderstorms, rainfall, and gusty winds expected to sweep across several districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) by tonight, while Islamabad continues to experience intermittent showers offering relief from the recent heatwave.
According to the NDMA, areas likely to be affected include Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Buner, Malakand, Kohat, Nowshera, Charsadda, Swabi, Peshawar, Mardan, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Haripur, and surrounding regions.
The alert warns that powerful gusts could uproot weak trees and cause brief power outages. Dust storms and high winds may also damage vulnerable structures, rooftops, vehicles, and overhead power lines. Reduced visibility from rain and dust could heighten the risk of traffic accidents.
Citizens are advised to limit non-essential travel, keep vehicles parked in safe locations, and steer clear of trees, billboards, and unstable structures. For real-time updates and safety tips, residents are encouraged to use the Pak NDMA Disaster Alert App.
Rain Offers Respite in Islamabad
Meanwhile, various parts of Islamabad are witnessing sporadic rainfall accompanied by strong winds and occasional thunderclaps. The ongoing showers have brought temporary relief from the persistent heatwave.
According to the Meteorological Department, the current spell of rain is expected to persist until June 23. While the cooler weather has provided much-needed comfort to residents, wet roads and limited visibility may pose difficulties for commuters.
