Iran has launched a missile strike targeting military facilities in Beersheba, southern Israel, describing it as a โmeasured responseโ to ongoing Israeli air raids across the region.
The missile reportedly struck its target directly, causing fires and property damage. Israeli officials confirmed at least six people sustained minor injuries in the attack.
Iranian state media confirmed the strike, which comes amid escalating hostilities following a series of Israeli aerial attacks on Iranian soil, including overnight strikes in Tehran.
According to Iranโs Ministry of Defence, recent Israeli operations involved more than 60 fighter jets and over 120 munitions, focusing on industrial areas but also resulting in civilian casualties. Iranian authorities have denounced the Israeli campaign as โunprovoked and illegal,โ asserting that their missile response was a defensive action aimed at deterring further attacks.
A spokesperson for Iranโs Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stated the operation was โprecisely calculated to hit military infrastructure without targeting civilians.โ
Following the strike, Israeli emergency services responded swiftly to the impact zone in Beersheba. Fires erupted, thick plumes of smoke filled the air, and the northern train station was temporarily closed. Local authorities urged residents to avoid the affected area while emergency crews worked to secure the site.
Iran also condemned Israelโs actions in Gaza, where at least 34 Palestinians have reportedly been killed since midnight. Among them were 23 individuals allegedly shot while attempting to access humanitarian aid near the Netzarim Corridor. Iranian officials stated such incidents highlight Israelโs disregard for civilian lives and international law.
In response to the rising violence, Iranโs Foreign Ministry has called for international intervention, warning that continued Israeli aggression could ignite a broader regional war. The ministry appealed to global powers โ particularly the U.S. and U.K. โ to promote a diplomatic resolution before further escalation occurs.
Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump is expected to decide within the next two weeks whether the United States will become directly involved in the conflict.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said Trump is considering the potential for negotiations with Tehran before making any final decision. โGiven the possibility that talks with Iran may or may not proceed soon, the president will decide within the next two weeks whether to take action,โ she told reporters.
