Anti-war demonstrators gathered outside the White House in Washington, D.C., and in New York on Thursday to protest Israel’s ongoing attacks on Iran and to urge the United States to avoid military involvement in the escalating conflict, Al Jazeera reported.
Protesters denounced both Israeli military actions and U.S. support in the form of multi-billion-dollar military aid to Israel. “Hands off Iran now” and “Stop funding genocide” read many of the placards held by demonstrators.
“These demonstrators are against the Israeli bombing of Iran and against U.S. involvement, particularly through military aid,” reported Al Jazeera’s John Hendren from the scene.
The protests coincided with a report citing senior U.S. officials who say Washington is preparing for the possibility of a military strike on Iran in the coming days. While no final decision has been made, sources indicated that plans for a potential weekend strike are under review. The situation, they noted, remains fluid and subject to change.
The demonstrations reflect growing public concern over the prospect of a wider war in the Middle East and rising pressure on the Biden administration to avoid direct confrontation with Iran.
