Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has established a high-level committee, to be led by himself, aimed at advancing Pakistanโs transition to a cashless and digitized economy.
This committee will hold weekly meetings to monitor the progress of digital transformation initiatives nationwide. According to officials familiar with the matter, several measures supporting a digital financial framework have already been included in the newly unveiled federal budget.
Emphasizing the governmentโs commitment, the prime minister stated that digitizing the economy is among the administrationโs foremost priorities. โPromoting digital payments and electronic money transfers will help curb the informal economy and enhance financial transparency,โ he said.
Citing a successful example during the month of Ramadan, he mentioned that financial assistance was distributed through digital wallets, ensuring direct and transparent delivery of aid to eligible recipients, without the involvement of intermediaries.
The prime minister also highlighted the broader benefits of a strong digital financial system, suggesting it could contribute to lower inflation, increased remittance flows, and a more positive economic outlook. He pointed to the recent rally in the Pakistan Stock Exchange as a sign of rising investor confidence in the governmentโs economic strategy.
Concluding his remarks, Shehbaz Sharif attributed the ongoing economic improvement to the dedication of his economic team and divine support, reaffirming the administrationโs resolve to pursue sustainable growth through digital innovation and structural reforms.
