Major Relief
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a detailed weather advisory predicting significant relief from the ongoing heatwave in parts of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), with rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds expected in various regions over the coming hours.
According to the latest forecast released on Thursday, strong and dusty winds are likely to blow across the plain areas of Punjab, offering some respite from the intense heat. Light rain has been predicted in several northern cities of the province, including Talagang, Jhelum, and Rawalpindi.
Additionally, scattered showers accompanied by thunderstorms are expected in the hillier regions of Murree and Galiyat, as well as in Attock and Chakwal, especially during the evening and night hours.
The twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi are also expected to see a shift in weather patterns. While the capital is likely to experience intense heat during the daytime, the PMD has forecast the possibility of isolated thunderstorm-driven rain during the night.
These weather developments are anticipated to provide short-term relief from the soaring temperatures that have gripped the region for several days.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, similar weather conditions are forecast. Strong, dusty winds are expected to sweep through the plains of the province, while the upper districts, including Chitral, Dir, Swat, and Malakand, are likely to receive rain and thunderstorms by nightfall.
Other areas such as Mansehra, Shangla, Kohistan, and Abbottabad may also witness light to moderate rainfall accompanied by lightning and thunder.
Despite these developments in the northern and northwestern regions, most of Sindh and Balochistan are expected to remain under the grip of extreme heat. The PMD has warned that dry and sweltering conditions will continue to dominate cities such as Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, and Larkana.
In Balochistan, similar harsh weather is forecast, with temperatures likely to remain significantly above normal across a majority of the provinceโs districts.
Authorities have advised citizens, particularly in heat-struck areas, to take precautionary measures. People are urged to stay indoors during peak afternoon hours, remain hydrated, and avoid unnecessary outdoor activities.
The PMDโs advisory underscores the need for continued vigilance, especially in areas where the heatwave persists, while also offering some hope of cooling relief in regions expected to receive rain.
