Jimmy Donaldson, famously known as MrBeast, has made YouTube history by becoming the first individual content creator to surpass 400 million subscribers—cementing his status as the platform’s most-followed personality. He now leads the second-most subscribed channel, T-Series, by over 100 million followers.
Celebrating the milestone on X, Donaldson reflected on his early days:
“A decade ago before I blew up, everyone in my life told me I was too obsessed and constantly said I’d never make it. Despite that, I was in love with making content and grinded every moment my eyes were open for seven years before anyone started watching.”
He recalled once telling his mother he would “rather be homeless than do anything else,” underscoring his passion and commitment to content creation.
MrBeast launched his channel in 2012 with modest gaming content and experiments, eventually breaking through in 2017 with a viral video where he counted to 100,000. His unique blend of high-budget stunts, large-scale philanthropy, and heartwarming giveaways has since earned him global acclaim.
Donaldson’s efforts extend beyond YouTube entertainment. His philanthropic ventures have included funding thousands of cataract surgeries, donating hearing aids, and building homes for unhoused families in Jamaica.
However, his journey hasn’t been without controversy. In September last year, five anonymous contestants filed a lawsuit against Donaldson’s team, alleging mistreatment during the filming of his $5 million gameshow “Beast Games.”
The 54-page legal complaint accused the production of fostering a “culture of misogyny,” underfeeding participants, and failing to ensure a safe work environment. The case remains ongoing.
Despite legal setbacks, MrBeast’s rise reflects the transformative power of digital media—and the scale a single creator can reach through persistence, innovation, and impact-driven content.
