RAWALAKOT: Four wanted terrorists were killed in a joint operation carried out by police and law enforcement agencies in the Hussain Kot area of Rawalakot. The operation also resulted in the martyrdom of two police officers and injuries to eight others, officials confirmed.
According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Poonch, Riaz Mughal, the operation was launched following credible intelligence about the presence of the terrorists in a forested region. The suspects were reportedly hiding in a cave and were believed to be planning attacks in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
Addressing a late-night press conference, SSP Mughal said, “Acting on actionable intelligence, a police team, including myself, moved in to apprehend the suspects. During the raid, one of the terrorists threw a hand grenade, injuring an accomplice and one of our officers.”
A fierce exchange of gunfire followed, during which all four terrorists — wanted in multiple murder and terrorism cases — were killed.
“Tragically, two of our brave officers embraced martyrdom while defending the nation,” SSP Mughal stated. “In total, 20 members of the operation team were injured during the encounter.”
Authorities say the successful operation has averted a major threat in the region and reaffirmed their commitment to continuing efforts to eliminate militancy from Azad Kashmir.
