At least two people were killed and 11 others injured in a powerful explosion that struck a market in Balochistan’s Qila Abdullah district on Sunday evening, officials confirmed.
Deputy Commissioner Qila Abdullah, Riyaz Khan told that the blast occurred near Abdul Jabbar Market in the Gulistan area. “Initial investigations suggest the explosives were planted in a vehicle,” he said, adding that the bomb disposal squad and law enforcement agencies were on the scene, and a full investigation is underway.
An emergency was declared at the District Health Headquarters in Qila Abdullah, where the injured were taken for immediate medical attention. Some victims were also shifted to District Health Headquarters Chaman for further treatment.
Levies official Risaldar Gulab Khan said local personnel and bystanders quickly moved to rescue the injured following the explosion, helping to transport them to nearby hospitals.
Security forces have cordoned off the area and are collecting evidence to determine the nature and perpetrators of the attack.
The incident comes amid a worsening security climate in Balochistan, where insurgent groups have intensified their attacks in recent months. The banned Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) has notably escalated operations, often targeting security forces with increasingly deadly tactics.
In a major incident in March, militants hijacked the Jaffar Express near Sibi, killing 26 hostages — including 18 security personnel — with five more personnel martyred during the subsequent rescue operation.
This is a developing story. Updates will be provided as more verified information becomes available.
