LAHORE – Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has given in-principle approval for the establishment of thalassemia treatment centers in every division of the province, marking a major step forward in healthcare reform.
The announcement was made during a high-level meeting of the Department of Health and Population Welfare. At the start of the session, the Chief Minister also praised the success of Operation Bunyan-un-Marsoos, calling it a source of renewed national confidence and unity.
“The triumph of Operation Bunyan-un-Marsoos has reignited the spirit of national solidarity,” she said. Maryam Nawaz also paid tribute to her father, former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, stating, “Nawaz Sharif made the country’s defense invincible by conducting nuclear tests.”
Focusing on healthcare, she directed officials to devise a comprehensive strategy to ensure a steady supply of high-quality blood for patients, particularly those suffering from genetic blood disorders like thalassemia.
In addition to greenlighting thalassemia centers across all divisions, the provincial government approved the implementation of a centralized healthcare monitoring system to enhance service delivery and accountability.
Maryam Nawaz also emphasized the urgent need to complete the ongoing revamp of hospitals, urging officials to accelerate progress to provide timely and improved medical services throughout Punjab.
