Several major Gulf carriers, including Qatar Airways, Emirates, Etihad Airways, and Saudi Airlines, have temporarily suspended flights to Pakistan as the country enforces airspace restrictions due to heightened tensions following Indian drone attacks.
The airlines announced the cancellations in response to security concerns, emphasizing that passenger safety remains their top priority. As a result, travelers bound for Pakistan on connecting flights will not be able to proceed until further notice.
Passengers affected by the suspensions have been advised not to head to the airport and to contact their airlines or booking agents for alternative travel arrangements. The suspended operations will resume once the regional situation stabilizes.
Over 450 Flights Disrupted
Pakistanโs restricted air operations have led to the disruption of more than 450 flights, with nearly 150 cancellations directly linked to Indian drone attacks. Destinations impacted include Dubai, Doha, and Kuala Lumpur, with several pilgrim flights also grounded.
The abrupt closure and subsequent partial reopening of airspace over major cities โ including Lahore, Sialkot, Islamabad, Multan, and Karachi โ have left thousands of travelers stranded and forced widespread flight rescheduling.
At Lahoreโs Allama Iqbal International Airport, which typically handles over 50 flights per day, around 80% of operations have been affected.
Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) and the Pakistan Airport Authority (PAA) have urged passengers to verify flight statuses with their respective airlines before traveling to the airport.
Airport Operations Update
While Pakistanโs overall airport infrastructure remains functional, specific air routes โ especially in Karachi and Lahore โ will stay closed until May 31 due to operational concerns.
Karachiโs Jinnah International Airport, which had briefly halted flights, has now resumed full operations. The PAA confirmed that all major airports across the country are open and handling flights, though some route-specific suspensions remain in place.
The authority reiterated its advice for travelers to stay updated via official airline channels to avoid inconvenience.
