Saudi Railways (SAR) has unveiled its operational strategy for Hajj 2025, announcing a 25% increase in available train seats to accommodate the growing number of pilgrims.
A key component of the plan is the Haramain High-Speed Railwayโone of the fastest rail networks globallyโwhich will transport two million pilgrims this Hajj season. To meet rising demand, an additional 400,000 seats have been added. SAR will operate 4,768 trips between Madinah and Makkah through 20 Dhu al-Hijjah 1446, using a fleet of 35 high-speed trains. Each train travels at 300 km/h and accommodates 417 passengers, offering pilgrims a fast, modern, and eco-friendly journey.
Beyond rail, Saudi Arabia has significantly expanded its overall transportation infrastructure for Hajj 2025. The country has deployed 25,000 buses and increased its air and sea capacities. The General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) has secured three million flight seats, while Saudia Airlines will run 2,000 international flights, offering one million seats.
The Al Mashair Metro will also play a vital role by conducting 2,000 trips to transport over two million passengers between key religious sites. At Jeddah Islamic Port, the Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) has mobilized 436 personnel to facilitate the smooth entry of 5,000 pilgrims arriving by sea.
Saudi Post (SPL) is also enhancing its logistical support by deploying refrigerated vehicles to safely transport medical suppliesโhighlighting the heightened focus on health and safety during the pilgrimage.
To maintain order and legality during Hajj, Saudi authorities are enforcing strict measures against unauthorized participation. Penalties include fines ranging from 10,000 to 100,000 SAR, imprisonment, deportation, and a 10-year entry ban.
Pakistani Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Ahmed Farooq, underscored the importance of compliance, revealing that more than 11,000 Pakistani pilgrims overstayed their visas last year. In response, Pakistani pilgrims will be issued smart electronic wristbands to track their movements and support timely departures. Authorities have now classified overstaying in the Haram region as a serious offense subject to strict enforcement.
