A tragic helicopter crash near Ganganani in Uttarakhandโs Uttarkashi district claimed five lives and left two others seriously injured on Thursday morning, officials confirmed.
The helicopter, which was carrying six tourists and a pilot, crashed in a remote mountainous region close to the Indo-China border. The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
โRescue and relief teams were dispatched immediately after the crash alert,โ said Garhwal Divisional Commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey. โThe two injured passengers have been moved to a medical facility for urgent treatment.โ
Disturbing images released by local authorities revealed the wreckage of the helicopterโs interior, with twisted metal and blood-stained seats. Emergency response teams, including personnel from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and district administration, are currently at the scene.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami extended his condolences to the victimsโ families and announced a formal investigation into the crash.
โThe news of the helicopter crash near Gangnani is deeply distressing,โ he wrote in a social media post. โRelief teams from SDRF and the district administration are on-site, and efforts are underway to provide every possible assistance to the injured.โ
The chief minister added that he is closely monitoring the situation and has directed officials to ensure full support for the ongoing rescue and medical operations.
